Think Pacific is an award winning UK social enterprise, and registered Fijian charity – born out of the University of Leeds (UK) and created in partnership with the Fijian Ministry of Health in 2008. For over a decade, we’ve partnered with the Fijian Government to promote Fijian-led development & cultural exchange.

We support initiatives that aim to empower both local communities and overseas volunteers.

We facilitate the highest standard of positive cultural exchange, delivering ethical, responsible and sustainable programmes in Fiji, which provide a safe, structured and hugely rewarding experience for all participants.

The Team Leader Role

The role of Expedition Leader is a vital position within Think Pacific as you work as part of a leadership team to guide 1-month &/or 2-month projects from start to finish.

This position is a unique opportunity to work for an award-winning not-for-profit organisation. You will gain huge experience, knowledge and skills in leadership and international development.

When Would You Need to be Available? You will need to be available for a 10-11 week period between 1st June to 31st August.

When do Applications Close? Applications close 9th May 2022

Is there a Cost? No. It’s a fully-funded role. Return flights, accommodation, training and food are all covered by Think Pacific.

Here at Think Pacific, we are extremely proud that the majority of our staff have taken part in one of our projects and we recognise that it’s having that first hand experience of Fiji and our ethos which helps create the best possible leadership team to support, guide and deliver our team projects in the heart of the South Pacific.

Being a TP Leader is all about using your skills, passion and knowledge to facilitate the best possible experience for a team of international volunteers, and to ensure our programmes have the biggest impact in the local community that hosts them.

Being completely immersed into rural Fijian life challenges everyone in different ways. However, within the Leadership role you are responsible for guiding 24 students on this challenging yet rewarding experience; all whilst personally adapting to the culture, customs and different way of life – so before applying ask yourself; are you prepared to go that extra mile? Have you got that relentless attitude to ensure the success of each project? And above all else can you uphold the standards and ethics that make TP so special?

The Expedition Leader role demands;

When Would You Need to be Available?

You will need to be available for a 10-11 week period between 1st June to 31st August.

What Does Being an Expedition Leader Include?

The role is a part-funded role overseas but not a paid job. Although you will have to fund your own flights, Think Pacific will cover all in country expenses whilst on project as well as the following;

  • All accommodation and food whilst training or on project delivery.
  • Comprehensive online training program
  • All project and in-country travel by bus, taxi or boat/ferry as required in each itinerary.
  • Think Pacific clothing, including a selection of branded t-shirts, vests and sulus.
  • All necessary visa costs or work permit applications as determined by the Fiji Immigration Department.
  • In-country 5-days orientation and training in Suva, Fiji capital city.
  • Professional reference and future job opportunities.
Essential Skills Required

As we aim to build our strongest leadership team to date, we are looking for mature, reliable and culturally-positive individuals; who have the necessary leadership experience to consistently perform at a high level even when nobody is watching. The skills that we believe will possess such qualities are as follows:

Our leaders go through a significant learning experience. We see huge self-development and personal growth and increased transferable skills, from confidence to project-based skills.  This is alongside immense pride at contributing to the Fiji National Development Plan as we achieve positive change for some of the most rural communities in Fiji.

Application Process & Timeline

We review all applications, gain feedback from our Fiji management team and select a small percentage of our applicants to attend an interview.

  1. Applications Close on the 9th May 2022.
  2. Applications will be shortlisted for online interviews.
  3. Confirmation of application outcome.
  4. On-boarded to leader training portal and online community
  5. One week of training in Fiji between May – June (depending on Project Dates)
  6. Lead 2x 1-month Projects across a 10/11 week period
